(Heb 4:15-16 NNAS)  For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.  Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The Apostle James writes "for we all stumble in many ways..." (see James 3:2).  The Apostle John writes "if we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves..." (see 1 John 1:8).  The bottom line?  Christians sin.  However, our verse today tells us to remember that Jesus can sympathize with our weaknesses and when we do sin, we should draw near to Him.  Human nature is to try and hide or run from God when we sin.  However, Scripture tells us to do just the opposite.  God knows we're going to sin, but He wants us to come to Him when we do.  He wants us to confess our sins so He can forgive us and help us repent.  Scripture is also clear that Christians are not to practice sin (blatantly ignoring the Word of God), but when we do stumble and fall, remember God isn't there to condemn us, but to help us.  It is Satan that wants us to hide from God, ignore our sins or deny them.

May our prayer today be:  "Father, help me to remember that when I do sin, You are willing to forgive me if I will confess my sins.  Though I know You want me to 'sin not', I know I will.  So when I do, help me to be quick to confess my sins.  Then help me to repent of them so that I may continue to grow in grace and become more like Jesus each day".

With you in Him,

Ken
